John MacDonald, President, has over 30 years of experience in operations, marketing, and general management. Prior to forming Brimrock, John held overall responsibility for the sales and marketing, engineering, purchasing, and finance departments of a company which sold and delivered sulphur forming and handling technology into the world markets. John’s career includes 8 years in a variety of marketing and senior management roles with BC Rail, including Director of Bulk Products and Intermodal. Prior to joining BC Rail, John spent over 17 years in operations and sales management positions in the Canadian trucking industry.

Les Lang, Vice President Marketing and Technology, has worked for the past 30 years in the sulphur forming and handling business including 18 years in operations and 12 years in sales and marketing. Prior to forming Brimrock, Les was Manager of International Marketing and Sales for a sulphur equipment sales company, where he was responsible for the company’s international sales, spare parts, commissioning, and technical audit functions in Europe, India, Africa, Asia, Russia and the Former Soviet Union countries. His 18 years in forming plant operations include managing plant operations, international plant commissioning, process development and product quality control, and with this experience brings a wealth of operational, technical and international expertise to the company. He holds the distinction of being the first operator of the world’s first sulphur granulation forming plant.

Paul Larson, Vice President Operations, has worked in the sulphur forming and handling business for 27 years. Prior to forming Brimrock, Paul was Manager of Technical Support, responsible for the management and direction of commissioning personnel, and plant start-ups of sulphur forming and handling facilities at numerous locations around the world. Paul spent 18 years in several sulphur forming and handling plants; 5 years as operator, 13 years as supervisor. Paul’s technical background in mechanical and instrumentation systems enable him to be a key technical advisor to operation and engineering groups on all aspects of sulphur forming and handling, block pouring, degassing technology, and remelting systems.

J. (Jim) P. Irani Ph.D., P.Eng., Director, Technology, has worked exclusively within the sulphur industry since 1988. Throughout his career, Jim has led process development and optimization initiatives, been responsible for planning and conducting lab and field testing of sulphur processes and products, and served as a team resource for overseas commissioning and start up teams. Jim has worked as a Senior Process Engineer on several projects, and has led project teams as a Project Manager for a number of overseas forming and handling facility installations. He has operations management experience having worked with forming and degassing plant operations as well as supervising block remelt, railcar loading and bagging operations. Jim holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering; a Master’s Certificate in Project Management and is a Registered Professional Engineer. He has served as a member of the Technical Advisory Committee for Alberta Sulphur Research Ltd. for 6 years.

Sergio De Paoli, Ph.D., P. Eng., Senior Engineer, Technology has been a significant contributor to sulphur technology development since his first introduction into the industry in 1985. Sergio has led the development of molten sulphur degassing technologies, pioneered sulphur granulating, pastillation and wet prilling process enhancements, and developed analytical tools and programs to enhance care and control in sulphur forming and handling operations. Sergio’s distinguished career includes a 13 year assignment as Director, Research and Development for a major sulphur forming and handling technology provider where he led a team of researchers and contributors in the provision of technical and laboratory services, new technology development and optimization of existing processes. Dr. De Paoli has extensive overseas experience, working and consulting with several major EPC and EPCM companies on sulphur and non-sulphur related projects, sulphur marketing clients and equipment suppliers in improving their concepts and designs, HSE program development and compliance to mitigate risk, and studies and test programs to guide business development.
